Hi, my name is Lori Wilson. I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist who specializes in treating fertility in San Diego, California. While studying pre-med at the University California Santa Cruz, I began to experience horribly painful periods. I was diagnosed with dysmenorrhea (painful periods) and prescribed the usual anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxers.

But each and every month without fail, I would lose 3-4 days to pain and recovery. I could not live this way, planning every month around when I would get my period. I wanted to be free from the pain altogether not just mask its expression every month. That is when I found acupuncture. Within three months of treatment, my cramps were gone and my periods were normal again.

I can't explain how exhilarating it was to be pain-free. I had my life back and a new sense of purpose, to become an acupuncturist.

It is estimated between 10 - 15 percent of couples are classified as infertile, which means that they've been trying to get pregnant with frequent, unprotected intercourse for at least a year with no success.
Ovulation needs to occur.
Having regular menstrual cycles during which an egg is released, a process known as ovulation is essential to achieving pregnancy.
Getting pregnant is a complex process.
For pregnancy to occur, every part of the intricate reproduction process has to take place in the correct order at the correct time from the recruiting of follicles within the ovary to the ovary's release of a mature egg to the fertilization of the egg to the fertilized egg's implantation and growth in the uterus.
According to the Mayo Clinic, 10-15 percent of couples in the United States have fertility challenges.
Infertility is defined as not being able to get pregnant despite having frequent, unprotected sex for at least a year.
In about half of these cases, male fertility factors play a role.
Male fertility problems are due to low sperm production (count), misshapen sperm (morphology), immobile sperm (motility), or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm.
Infections, injuries, urological health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors can play a role in causing male infertility.
Acupuncture the day of transfer has shown to increase the chances of success from anywhere between 30-60% depending on the study.
A Having acupuncture on location the day of transfer helps in many ways but most importantly by calming the patient, allowing for open reception of the embryo.
On the day of transfer, there are two acupuncture treatments you receive on site at your IVF clinic.
A Acupuncture is administered both 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes post transfer.
A The intention of the first treatment is to calm the patient, increase blood flow to the uterus and facilitate reception of the embryo.
For those of you not interested in acupuncture, working with a TCM trained Chinese herbalist is a wonderful way to empower your healing journey and receive guidance and support.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is the most widely practiced herbal tradition in the world.
It has a rich and sophisticated system of diagnosis to address a variety of conditions.
According to the oldest text, herbal medicine can be used for three reasons: to alleviate specific symptoms (the lowest level of treatment), to rectify imbalances in the body (the middle level), and to promote longevity (the highest level).
I can't say enough about how much Lori changed our lives for the better.
I was 29 when I first started trying to get pregnant without success.
I spent a year working with my OB and did the typical cycles of Clomid etc with no ovulation, much less pregnancy.
My OB finally suggested I visit a specialist for IVF consult.
I wasn't sure if that was the right path for us due to cost and the dramatic physical toll of IVF, so my OB suggested I try acupuncture first.
A friend of a friend recommended Lori which made me comfortable giving it a shot (I'd never tried acupuncture or any other non-western medicine).
