Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners observed that disease and dysfunction result from imbalances of the balancing forces yin and yang within people. Trigger point acupuncture is our speciality. It is a unique and highly effective form of acupuncture developed in North America and used as a treatment for pain conditions. Acupressure and Tuina are forms of bodywork, where the practitioner applies pressure and hands-on techniques, instead of needles, to the points or areas of treatment.

We often use acupressure and tuina after acupuncture treatment of conditions involving muscles, tendons and joints, orthopedic problems and injuries. Some health insurance plans cover part or all of the charges for acupuncture services. We advise all patients to contact the member services department of their insurance carrier to determine what their benefits are regarding acupuncture.

Cupping Therapy is the use of glass or plastic cups and a mechanical suction device to create a local suction under the cup to improve blood flow in order to relax muscles and promote healing.

Their New Paltz office specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions.
They both attended one of the premier colleges of acupuncture in the United States, the Tri-State College of Acupuncture, which is the only college offering training in Acupuncture Physical Medicine, developed by Dr. Mark Seem, the founder of Tri-State.
Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners observed that disease and dysfunction result from imbalances of the balancing forces yin and yang within people.
These imbalances disrupt the movement of the body's vital energy (qi) which is said to flow along pathways called meridians.
Acupuncture works to restore the balanced flow of qi in the body.
A more contemporary understanding of how acupuncture works has to do with the stimulaton of the nervous system in general and the stimulation of the specific area of the needle insertion.
Trigger point acupuncture is our speciality.
It is a unique and highly effective form of acupuncture developed in North America and used as a treatment for pain conditions.
It is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Janet Travell.
Trigger points are located in soft-tissue, primarily in bands of tightened muscle fibers.
Trigger points often develop as a consequence of acute or repetitive strain, muscular-skeletal imbalance, injury or disease.
They may cause localized pain, referred pain, and reduced range of motion and function.
Electro-acupuncture is the use of an FDA approved electrical device to provide a continuous, gentle stimulation to specific acupuncture needles.
The mild current flowing through the needles improves the healing of injured or inflamed joints or muscles, increases pain relieving endorphin release, and stimulates the nervous system to promote balanced functioning and a sense of well-being.
Many medical studies of acupuncture have demonstrated the use of electrical stimulation on specific acupuncture points to effectively relieve pain, improve tissue healing, reduce nausea and improve organ functions.
Some health insurance plans cover part or all of the charges for acupuncture services.
We advise all patients to contact the member services department of their insurance carrier to determine what their benefits are regarding acupuncture.
The following is a list of insurance companies that do cover acupuncture in some of their insurance plans.
You should still check with the company to learn what your specific benefits and patient responsibilities are regarding coverage, copay and deductibles.
For other insurance companies - check with your member services department regarding benefits and coverage of acupuncture.
