The Center For Acupuncture And Traditional Medicine was founded by MaryEllen Velahos, L. Ac. Ms. Velahos envisions a health system where both the western trained allopathic physician and the traditional health practitioner work together to provide the best care for their patients. She says that she was surprised to find that the needles were hardly "needles" at all and felt nothing like she had expected.

There was virtually no pain and she found herself going to each treatment session wondering "what would happen next" as she saw her condition make a 100 percent improvement. She also discovered that the sessions themselves were very relaxing. After becoming licensed in Pennsylvania, Velahos opened The Center for Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in Bala Cynwyd.

She says that what she loves most about Chinese Medicine is that it has a treatment for every condition because "we simply rebalance the body, which when in balance takes over and does the healing all by itself." The Center For Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine is located in Ardmore, PA.

At one time or another, all of us experience stress.
These feelings are a healthy response to events in our lives that may feel beyond our control.
When we are healthy and the stress is short-lived, we are usually able to recover without too much wear and tear to our overall health.
However, when the stress is extreme, or if it lasts a long time, our emotional health and ultimately, our physical health begin to suffer.
Our bodies are hardwired to help us react to stressful events.
At the first sign of a threat, whether real or perceived, our sympathetic nervous system kicks in and facilitates what is called the "fight or flight" response.
The pain that headache and migraine sufferers endure can impact every aspect of their lives.
Acupuncture can offer powerful relief without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause.
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine have been used to relieve Headaches and Migraines, as well as their underlying causes, for thousands of years and is a widely accepted form of treatment for headaches in our society.
There are acupuncturists that specialize in the treatment of headaches and migraines and can help you manage your pain with acupuncture and Chinese herbs alone, or as part of a comprehensive treatment program.
Gynecological conditions, including premenstrual syndrome (PMS), fibroids, endometriosis, menopause and infertility are some of the problems treated most successfully by acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
Oriental medicine has long recognized that health and vitality can be sustained over a woman's lifetime by restoring balance within the body and supporting the natural production of essential hormones.
Premenstrual syndrome covers a broad spectrum of issues that can include emotional symptoms such as depression, irritability, sadness, anxiety, or poor concentration.
The sciatic nerve can literally be a huge pain in the butt.
It is the largest nerve in the body, which consists of a large bundle of smaller nerves that begin in the lumbar spine, travel down the buttocks, and move through the leg.
Technically, sciatica is not a disease, but a group of symptoms that affect the region of the sciatic nerve.
Radiating pain is one of the more common and intense symptoms associated with sciatica.
There can also be numbness and tingling starting in the lower back radiating down the leg.
While sinusitis simply refers to inflammation of the nasal passages, the symptoms and treatments can prove more complex.
An acute case of sinusitis (recently occurring) becomes chronic when medical treatments fail to cure the problem after 8 weeks.
The symptoms of sinusitis vary depending on whether the condition is acute or chronic.
Many of the symptoms for either case are the same, though there are slight variations.
If a case of severe sinusitis develops, symptoms such as confusion, double-vision, stiff neck, swollen forehead and shortness of breath may happen as well.
