Services
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese art of healing using very fine needles placed in specific points on the body.
It has been used in China since at least 2000 BC.
It can be used for a wide variety of illnesses, including asthma, insomnia and headache, among others.
Acupuncture is based on the theory that energy circulates throughout the body in channels and its flow can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points.
Bringing the flow of energy into balance brings a sense of well-being and can relieve pain and other symptoms.
Traditional acupuncture, as practiced by Licensed Acupuncturists (LicAc), employs the full range of diagnostic and treatment techniques developed over more than two millennia.
By treating the person as a whole, acupuncture can effectively address the root causes of a wide range of both acute and chronic conditions, as well as benefitting the overall well-being of the patient.
Depending on your individual circumstances and personal preferences, acupuncture can be used either as an alternative to Western medicine or to support Western treatment.
Seeing a Chinese medical practitioner is a very different experience than seeing a Western doctor.
The initial visit with JoAnn will last between one and one and a half hours and includes an extensive history and a treatment.

Both pulse and tongue diagnosis are highly developed in Chinese medicine and are very useful tools for the practitioner.
Once JoAnn has completed the evaluation, the client lies covered on a treatment table and she inserts very fine, single use, disposable needles into selected points on the body.
