I am a nationally certified Acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner based in Boulder, Colorado. I have been licensed and practicing in the State of Colorado since 2008. I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon completing high school, I traveled to Olympia, Washington to attend Evergreen State College. I studied environmental science and completed my Bachelors of Science degree in 2002.
Feeling the need to serve the community more directly, I shifted my focus to medicine. I studied nursing at South Puget Sound Community College and received my nursing assistant certification in 2004. I worked at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Around this time, my father began to visit an acupuncturist. Seeing his success with Chinese medicine, I decided that this was something I wanted to learn more about.
In 2005, I moved to Boulder, Colorado and began my studies at Southwest Acupuncture College. I started Find Your Balance Acupuncture in 2008, specializing in OB-GYN.

I may ask you questions that seem unrelated to the reason you came for treatment, but Chinese medicinal diagnoses gain information from a broad range of sources.

Your Basal Body Temperature is the measured temperature of your body before any activity in the morning.
This temperature is your body's baseline temperature.
Your temperature will rise between 0.4 and 0.8 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of ovulation and will stay elevated until just before the start of your next period.
If a pregnancy occurs, the temperature will remain elevated past the day that your next period would normally begin.
This rise in temperature doesn't tell you when you are going to ovulate, but rather that you have ovulated.

Find Your Balance Acupuncture believes strongly in educating clients so that they can make informed lifestyle choices.
The more educated you become about your body, the healthier and happier you will feel.
During each treatment, I will read your pulse and look at your tongue to diagnose your condition.
Chinese medicine considers the whole person, not just one isolated symptom to make a diagnosis.
Your customized treatment plan will recommend a duration of treatment, the frequency of treatments, specific acupuncture points and possibly a custom Chinese herbal formula.

Studies show that acupuncture produces its effects by increasing pain-killing biochemicals like endorphins.
Acupuncture may also alter the way the brain releases neurotransmitters and hormones.
These changes affect involuntary body functions, immune reactions and processes that regulate a person's blood pressure, blood flow, and body temperature.
Acupuncture resets the homeostasis of the body allowing the body to use its own innate ability to heal itself.
Acupuncture theory is based on the flow of Qi in meridians located throughout the body.
