Used needles are discarded after each use.
The area will then be cleaned with alcohol, with no possibility of infection or cross infection.
Since acupuncture needles are so thin (approximately 1/50th of the thickness of an injection needle), most needling is not painful.
The practioner will guide you to cough or take deep breath when needle is inserted to distract you.
