Chinese/Asian medicine encompasses not only acupuncture, but also tui na, gua sha, moxibustion, cupping, cold laser, external liniments, and internal herbs. If needles make you nervous, there are other powerful means of treatment within its scope of practice. There are a myriad of symptoms, diseases, and injuries for which it provides effective treatment.
Chinese/Asian Medicine adds a focus on physics in the human body, akin to the focus on biology and chemistry that Western (allopathic) Medicine uses in diagnosis and treatment. This is why it complements Western Medicine so well. It has over 4000 years of evidence-based support for its effectiveness, but not all acupuncturists are educated or experienced equally.
A number of these successes have been confirmed by my patients' western medical test results. From getting a patient's chronic pain from a 7/10 pain scale reading to a 3/10 or even a 0/10 with regular treatments, to treating PTSD and mental imbalances, to eliminating sinus pain from the common cold, it gets results.
