Founded in 1980 in San Francisco, the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) is one of the oldest and most prestigious eastern medicine schools in the United States. ACTCM offers master's and doctoral degrees in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as public programs and continuing education courses. In this same year, the College opened its Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic, which provides affordable care using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to the people of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
In our two award-winning community clinics, students, under the supervision of licensed acupuncturists, gain practical experience in the application of acupuncture, tuina and shiatsu, and Chinese herbs for the treatment of various conditions and the promotion of wellness and health.

The Master of Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) and the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) - the recognized accrediting agency for programs preparing acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners.
During the teach-out period, the program maintains the current accredited status.
ACAOM is recognized by the United States Department of Education as the specialized accreditation agency for institutions/programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) offers and supports a variety of CIIS experiences, including the Bridge Program for incoming first-year students, diversity workshops, extracurricular events and conversations, dialogues on justice, teach-ins, film screenings, and academic program orientations.
Through these events and the resources, ODI strives to work with the CIIS community to engage the entire institution in meaningful dialogues and actions that lead to introspection and change, affecting not only the academic environment and student experience at CIIS, but the community beyond.
