But because we get to have such a strong bond with our patients, we also get to see them as whole people. With pets. With kids. With vacations to look forward to in the future. Or with losses and failures. We hold this precious space for each person who walks through our doors: to laugh and cry, or even shout. It's all welcome here. And so are you.
I'm a Portland-native, of Hawaiian and Chinese descent. The name "Keahi" is pronounced "Kay-ah-hee, " and it is one of my two middle names, given to me by my family (in the Hawaiian tradition). Keahi means "the fire, " in Hawaiian and in Chinese medicine, the fire element is related to the Heart. I chose the name in part to pay homage to my family's rich tradition of healing and to represent the care (from the heart) that I and the other practitioners have for our patients.

Going through the changes that come with being a female don't have to be as challenging as we think.
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been successfully treating hormonal imbalances since 476 BCE.
Today, research shows that acupuncture influences the production and circulation of hormones in the body.
It also stimulates the production of "feel-good" neurotransmitters like endorphins.
Neurotransmitters are closely associated with hormones thus acupuncture affects our mood as well.
This treatment has been proven to balance hormones, ease hot flashes, mood swings, and soothe menstrual irregularities associated with menopause.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is a virtually painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of aging.
Based on the principles of Chinese Medicine, it helps the whole body look and feel younger by addressing the physical, mental and emotional patterns that cause disease and contribute to the aging process.
The use of acupuncture to slow the visible effects of aging began in China in the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD).
Emperors and empresses were the only ones allowed to receive this powerful treatment!

Our kids go to school here, we get to listen to the summer concerts in the park, and we enjoy the natural beauty of this city.

Why do I do this?
I've been asked this so many times.
My quick answer is, "aren't you glad that I do?"
A more honest look will tell you that I just want to help people and be useful and acupuncture is the best way for me to do that.
I also think that my patients know that I get a lot out of helping them.
Yep, they've figured me out.
My interest in Chinese Medicine began as a child when I heard stories of my great-grandfather's extensive Chinese medical collection.
Interest grew into passion with my first acupuncture treatment at the age of 14.

As a person who has experienced pain up close and personally, I understand a patient's desire to be relieved of muscles needing health care and attention.
I am a competitive sailor, mom, and enjoy the art of building a strong and healthy body at any age.
I am intrigued by the study of muscles; how they move our bones and function in our daily lives.
Muscles can be flexible and robust, or inflexible and cause us pain.
I consider it a gift and an honor to offer the skills to ease tension and pain and create a safe environment to improve the body's movement.
