Tobey Williamson is licensed to practice acupuncture and herbal medicine in Maine and Hawaii and is a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine L.Ac.
Concurrent with his Master's program, Tobey also completed a rigorous clinical apprenticeship under master acupuncturist, Dr. Chieko Maekawa, L.Ac., Ph.
D., founder of the Seitai Shinpo Acupuncture Foundation.
As a post-graduate, Certified Seitai Shinpo Acupuncturist (CSSAc) at Dr. Maekawa's Kona Clinic of Acupuncture, he continued to help patients heal from a variety of complex health concerns.
Several thousand years ago, East Asian medical practitioners discovered that the body develops disharmonies as a result of the various physical and mental stresses of life.
These ancient physicians soon learned that inserting thin needles into the precise points on the body and burning the herb Artemesia vulgaris on the skin helped to relieve pain and other symptoms of disharmony.
Other healers focused on nutrition and the various herbs, animal products, and minerals that could be used as medicine to prevent and cure diseases.
Chinese herbs are often used in conjunction with acupuncture for added therapeutic effect.
While many cultures have herbal medicine traditions, the sophistication of Chinese herbal medicine is unsurpassed.
Chinese herbal medicine has a long history reaching back several thousand years, and the resulting system is now used to treat everything from the common cold to symptoms associated with cancer.
There are thousands of herbs in the Chinese materia medica, of which about 300 are commonly used.
After a comprehensive examination and discussion of your goals, you will receive a mixture of several different herbs in a formula that has been tailored to your condition.
Sotai Ho uses simple movements and breath work to release muscular restrictions and bring the body back into alignment with its natural gravitational center.
Dr. Hashimoto found the easiest way to release these restrictions was to listen to the body's own wisdom to avoid pain and move into the direction of ease.
And when this movement is coordinated with our breath, the body quickly adjusts and falls back into its natural aligned state.
After your acupuncture treatment and upon request, we can work together to find the specific Sotai movements you can do at home.
Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor's office, but they won't.
The intake process will involve questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history.
Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Herbal Medicines and Sotai Ho Movement Therapies work by activating the body's own healing powers, so they can be beneficial for many health conditions.
We are In-Network with Optum and Anthem, as we focus on insurance care for teachers and veterans.
