It is often said, "Pain and suffering are the gifts that nobody wants." In my own personal experience I find this to be wholeheartedly true. Our bodies are our greatest gifts and our most wondrous tools. It is our job as sentient human beings to learn how to appreciate our bodies and all that comes with it and to learn how to use them wisely. Pain is part of that journey.
Pain is the one thing that all human beings know and have in common, but each person's pain is also completely individual. The poet, Rumi once said, These pains you feel are messengers. Listen to them. I want to help you listen to those messages because I believe to know one's own pain and suffering is to also know one's own self. My goal at Acupuncture Pain and Performance is to help you understand the conundrum of your pain.
I wish I could just hand out a solution to each person's problem in one session - that is not how I work. I want to thoroughly get to the bottom of your issue which might take some time. My hope is that if I teach you how to manage your body then you can get your pain under control or possibly make it go away forever.

We are all just travelers on a journey.
I am a healer, a warrior, a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, but most of all I am an educator.
Like you, I am on my own journey too.
Part of my journey is to assist people with their journey.
Notice I used the word "assist."
I am not an omnipotent or omniscient being - I am just me.
I cannot cure you, I can only help you heal yourself.
Through my travels I have learned a thing or two which I hope might help you.
My journey started out in 1970.

In Asian medicine or the all-encompassing term acupuncture, we believe that the body is made up of energy or what we call or Ki in Japanese or Qi in Chinese ().
This energy flows throughout our bodies and within in different networks which affect every part of our bodies including our muscles, tissues, bones and organs.
Some parts of our bodies can have an excess amount of energy while other parts can also be deficient but both of these imbalances can lead to disease or pain.
If our energies are in "balance" then the body has the ability to heal itself.

Shakuju Therapy believes that all disease is a function of one's internal energy () or Ki in Japanese or Qi in Chinese being in decline which causes their energy to be in some sort of abnormal state which primarily manifests itself as cold.
Cold isn't necessarily the sensation of cold but a decline in one's internal state.
The founder of Shakuju, Shoji Kobayashi says, "When people are born, they are warm and when they die, they become cold."
The body uses its internal energy for all growth, development and metabolic activity.

The use of cupping to treat disease has been around since 3,000 BC.
In cupping, a negative pressure is created when fire or suction is applied to a glass, bamboo or plastic cup which is placed at different parts of the body to help remove obstructions.
Obstructions are created when muscles and tissues lose blood flow and become immobile, cells don't get enough oxygen, fascia becomes restricted, toxins build up and energy flow becomes blocked.
When any of these impairments happen, we feel pain.
Applying pressure with a cup enables the body to restore its natural energy flow, increasing blood circulation to muscles and tissues which loosens the knots and frees up the fascia too move freely.
