Lauren graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and a Concentration in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin.
She went on to work as a Registered Dietitian at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Francisco and later as a representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Growing up in a medical family, Lauren knew early on that her interest and future lay in the biological sciences. While in her early 20's, Lauren started to have various puzzling symptoms that stumped doctors and went misdiagnosed for years.
After years of struggling with fatigue, heart palpitations and digestive upset (to name a few), she was eventually diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid condition. Her physician referred her to an acupuncturist/herbalist to help her heal, in addition to taking a pharmaceutical.
