My journey into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine started as a child with a mother who had a natural remedy for everything.
Her remedies included EVERYTHING from using a ripe banana peel on a wart to a hot lemon honey drink for a cold.
I learned early the value of relying on our bodies own natural healing potential when given the right impetus.
This spurred a curiousity in me to understand the intricacies of how the body works.
I attended Miami University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Zoology.

Acupuncture is one part of a larger system of medicine called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Traditional Chinese medicine is rooted in the concept of creating flow, strength, and balance where there is stagnation, deficiency or excess by moving qi and blood throughout the body.
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin, sterile, single-use acupuncture needles into carefully chosen points on the body.
The selection of acupuncture points is based on your individual Chinese Medical diagnosis.

There are hundreds of individual substances commonly used in Chinese herbal medicine.
Most of these herbs are derived from part of a plant, but some are sourced from animals and minerals.
Several herbs are quite common and you may find them in and around your home such as ginger, cinnamon, garlic, chrysanthemum and peony flowers.
Chinese herbs are most commonly prescribed in a formula or mixture of around 8-15 individual herbs.
The subtle characteristics of each individual herb has been studied over the years, and these formulas have been carefully crafted to create a delicate synergy between the herbs and in the body.

There are many reasons to hire a doula, possibly one of the most important is that doulas help to facilitate a positive birth experience.
Doulas may do that by enhancing communication of your wants and needs with the rest of your birth team, providing massage, breathing techniques, and optimal positions to help bring you comfort and progress labor.
