Services
Harlem Chi Community Acupuncture (HCCA) is an affordable acupuncture and Chinese Medicine practice providing individualized health and wellness services.
The mission of HCCA is to make acupuncture and Chinese Medicine more accessible, to encourage and promote the benefits of preventative medicine, and to provide a relaxing environment where patients are supported to take charge of their health and wellness goals.
Making the treatments affordable: Acupuncture is most effective if you can make frequent and regular visits to your practitioner.
The Balance Method is an acupuncture practice systematized, refined, and taught by the late Master Teacher Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan.
Dr. Tan is renowned for bringing to life thousands of years of fundamental concepts of balance enshrined in the foundational classics of Chinese philosophy.
He translated that ageless wisdom into an integrated method of practice that is clinically effective, as well as fundamentally holistic in its understanding and application.
The concept of balance is woven throughout the texts of Chinese philosophy and medicine.
Because acupuncture works by stimulating the body's own healing mechanisms it is effective for an incredibly wide range of conditions.
As acupuncture is part of a whole and logical medical system, there is almost always an approach for an acupuncturist to take for helping to manage a health problem - or even better, to help you remain pain and illness free.
In addition, even if you are in great health by Western medicine's standards, acupuncture can improve your quality of life by enhancing your mood, boosting energy, and facilitating sleep.
If you have been told or have read that there is one factor to account for how acupuncture works, that explanation is probably not the whole picture.
There have been many attempts to nail down The One Reason acupuncture works.
In reality modern science is discovering that there is not one factor, but it is more likely many reactions going on at once involving different systems - including the central nervous system - that allow acupuncture to have such wide, strong and lasting effects.
From a western medicine point of view acupuncture causes many physiological changes in the body including vasodilation (increased blood flow), stimulation of hormones and neurotransmitters, and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (allowing the patient to achieve very deep relaxation).
In acupuncture and Chinese medicine, we believe in treating the individual, not just treating the symptom(s).
Every individual comes with a unique pattern of symptoms and health issues that demand a targeted holistic approach to treatment.
Thus it is necessary to gather as much information about the individual to create a customized diagnosis and treatment plan at the outset.
It is best you arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill these out.
The Health History and Initial Intake form will ask a series of detailed questions that not only give us a full medical history but also aims to start an in-depth assessment of biological, nutritional, physical and emotional concerns to help us develop a pragmatic approach to treatment.
