I am a graduate of the Academy of Oriental Medicine (AOMA) in Austin, where I received a Masters degree after completing 3 1/2 years of study with over 1000 hours of clinical training.
I am also a certified health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
You will find that I have a hook for a left arm due to a car accident I'm 2009 while I was studying to be a chiropractor.
This experience was a challenge, but as I often say, "every challenge is a gift, and every gift is an opportunity."
The practice of community acupuncture is a grassroots movement intended to greatly increase access to acupuncture and widen its use in our increasingly complex health care system.
In China, the community model is the traditional way of practicing acupuncture, so we are helping to bring this community feel to the West and people are loving it.
People often think of acupuncture as being effective for complex, difficult, or uncommon problems that Western medicine has limited success with.
Unfortunately, this contributes to the perception of acupuncture as a medicine of last resort or that acupuncture is somehow miraculous in its effects.
When you get acupuncture at Hooked on Acupuncture you are not just a patient, you are a participant.
We are one of many clinics around the country in recent years to address the issue of affordability and access to acupuncture by offering treatment in a group setting with a sliding pay structure.
Treating in a group setting is actually a very traditional way of providing acupuncture, so we're kind of shining a new light on a very old way of doing things.
Community acupuncture is community supported acupuncture (we don't receive any grants or other funding to do what we do), and by supporting this clinic, you are participating in making the benefits of acupuncture accessible to more people than previously possible.
During Community hours, appointments are set every 15 minutes.
You will receive a confirmation on screen that your appointment was schedule.
Please then download new patient paperwork, (.PDF), fill out and bring with you.
For returning customers, select a service - Acupuncture, Cupping, or Herbal Consultation - and continue with the online form.
If you want more than one treatment or service, please make an appointment for each.
Payment is made at the clinic at time of appointment.
Prices and hours are listed below.
This can vary quite a bit from person to person, but more often than not, you will need a course of treatments for best results.
For example, for an acute problem you might get a few treatments scheduled closer together for a short time.
Whereas for a chronic problem, you might get treatments weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly over a longer period.
The best part of the community acupuncture model, is that it's affordable to get treated regularly, so you get to decide how much you want to be treated without breaking the bank.
