One benefit to acupuncture is that it is a drug-free way to minimize pain. With drugs, people often develop a tolerance, or the need for an increased dosage to achieve the same required effect. However, this does not happen with acupuncture. In addition, acupuncture allows the doctor to immediately examine a person's response to the treatment and adjust it if necessary.

Acupuncture decreases pain by increasing the release of chemicals that block pain, called endorphins. Many acu-points are near nerves. When stimulated, these nerves cause a dull ache or feeling of fullness in the muscle. The stimulated muscle sends a message to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), causing the release of endorphins (morphine-like chemicals produced in our own bodies during times of pain or stress).

Endorphins, along with other neurotransmitters (body chemicals that modify nerve impulses), block the message of pain from being delivered up to the brain. Clinical research suggests that acupuncture increases the likelihood of success with IVF.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is performed with extremely thin, flexible stainless steel needles.
It is nothing like receiving an ordinary injection.
In some cases, you will not even know the needles are in place.
If anything, you may feel some tingling, warmth, heaviness, or a feeling of the qi moving up and down the channels.
Most people find acupuncture very relaxing, and may fall asleep during treatment.
Is acupuncture safe?
We only use sterile, one-time use, disposable needles.
Therefore, there is no risk of blood-borne disease transmission.
When I first saw Valerie in 2007 I was incredibly stiff with lop-sided shoulder blades, a limited range of motion in my neck, and I was also uptight & always anxious.
The treatments helped in several noticeable stages- first the relaxation and "me time".
I found that each treatment helped to increase my tolerance and ability to cope with the stress of my daily life (similar to the peace one would find through meditation or regular exercise).
Second, after about 3 acupuncture treatments and the use of ear-beads in between treatments, the knots in my back really loosened up, my neck soon loosened up shortly after, which eventually led to fewer & less intense migraines.
