Traditional Chinese Medicine is the longest enduring, continuously evolving, literate medicine in human history. Its methods of treatment, including acupuncture and botanical (herbal) medicine as well as auxiliary methods such as tui na, moxibustion, gua sha, eastern nutrition, and cupping, have been refined over thousands of years and applied to the successful healing of - quite literally - billions of patients.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is perhaps the most tested form of medicine practiced around the world today. There is a saying in Chinese Medicine: "To treat a disease, find the Root". The symptoms (along with the Western diagnosis) that you currently experience, no matter the severity, are all considered "Branches". The root of the disease can likely be traced back many years.

This is one of the primary differences between modern Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine. TCM will treat the branch (symptoms) along with the root cause of disease whereas modern Western medicine typically focuses treatment entirely on the branch.

I was first introduced to acupuncture following a shoulder surgery, and continued treatment to relieve chronic headaches and debilitating migraines.
My fascination with acupuncture theory and the success of the treatments made me want to learn more.
A lot more.
After four years of school, over 3000 training hours, and four board exams, I became a licensed acupuncturist and board-certified herbalist.
My respect for, confidence in, and fascination with Chinese / Asian Medicine continues to grow, and I continue to further my education and share what I learn with my patients.
Acupuncture works by helping the body get more out of its own natural healing resources.
Beyond that, I don't know exactly how to explain how it works in Western terms.
Western science has ideas about how and why it works, and the more that we learn about embryology and the fascial system, the closer we are to answering that question.
Acupuncture as I learned it is based in Chinese medicine, which has an entirely different language.
Acupuncture works on the theory that the body has an innate intelligence and strives to be "in balance".

Herbal medicine has been traditionally used to treat virtually any ailment under the sun.
Herbs can be helpful in both acute and chronic conditions.
Topical formulas and liniments can help with dermatological issues and some pain conditions, and internal formulas work to correct deeper imbalances.
Chinese herbal formulas can also work like food therapy in promoting health and longevity over the long term.
NCCAOM certification in Chinese Herbal Medicine is currently the highest standard to ensure that a practitioner has the necessary skill to prescribe these medicinals safely and effectively.
Hi Lijana - I slept all day and all night, and there is a chance that an afternoon nap is in my future, but my jaw / cheek are at least 90% better.
I'm so excited.
All three of my knee surgeries have been different, and my second one was definitely the worst.
I had a lot of inflammation and scar tissue and could not get the mobility back into my knee for a long period of time.
Seven years later I had to have the same knee scoped a third time and was extremely apprehensive to say the least.
I had been going to Jana for various aches and pains and every time I left, whether she did cupping, or gua sha or acupuncture, I ALWAYS left feeling better than when I came.
