Acupuncture as a complex branch of Oriental Medicine has been successfully utilized for more then 3000 years. During this time Oriental Medicine has been used to address a multitude of health issues, and in modern days, it continues to provide well-documented relief to wide range of health concerns. Traditional Chinese and Oriental medicine arrived in the U.S. through the doctors who immigrated here.

President Nixon's visit to China in 1972 gave a strong inspiration for acupuncture to start growing in the U.S. In 1979 The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the use of acupuncture in the treatment of over 40 different medical problems (Read Abstract). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified acupuncture needles to category of "accepted medical instruments" in 1996.

In about two decades, acupuncture has grown in popularity in the United States. The National Institute of Health (NIH) in 1997 issued a Consensus Statement on Acupuncture, recognizing that acupuncture "may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative or be included in a comprehensive management program."
