According to Chinese Medicine, pain happens because, substances that flow through pathways within our bodies, become blocked. Treatment for pain involves the use of acupuncture and moxibustion, and often, guasha and cupping, to move these blockages.

Moving these blockages stimulates circulation to/through the area(s) of pain, allowing for your body's naturally occurring anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving (encephalin) compounds to do their jobs, speeding up the recovery/repair process. To discover the underlying cause of your insomnia, weakened immune system, propensity to allergies, and low energy levels, an acupuncturist may take your pulse, observe your tongue, and ask you questions.

This provides them with a diagnosis, which they will tailor their treatment to. Treatments for such patterns of imbalance may include acupuncture and moxibustion.

Basic Balance Acupuncture in Keene, NH was founded by Allison Millar, Licensed Acupuncturist, to provide pain relief, emotional wellbeing, and improved health to individuals within the Monadnock Community.
If you have a goal for treatment beyond general wellbeing/ health maintenance, an initial assessment is required before your first treatment, as it is needed to form an effective treatment plan.
During the assessment, we will discuss your health history, goals for treatment, and signs or symptoms that aid in the formation of the proper TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis.
Acupuncture and additional modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (nutritional counseling, moxabustion, guasha, cupping, tuina) when indicated.
Acupuncture stimulates your body's internal resources to increase your self-healing potential.
Our bodies know how to heal themselves.
If a problem is not resolving, it doesn't always mean that it is outside this healing ability.
We often aren't utilizing 100% of our self-healing potential, just as we don't maximize the full potential of our brains.

Although medical research has proven that acupuncture works, the mechanism via which it works is still unknown.
It has been shown to improve circulation, increase endorphins, regulate neurotransmitters, release anti-inflammatory compounds, activate key brain regulatory centers, and block pain sensation via the 'Gate Control' mechanism of our nervous system.

I came on board with hip/hip flexor muscle pain that could not be relieved with other treatments.
After 3 sessions with Allison- which were very calming and relaxing- I am now virtually pain free.
I was also relieved of sinus discomfort with a head cold in these treatments.

Initial Phase: Initiate a shift in the intensity, duration, or frequency of the main symptoms/concerns.
Middle Phase: Achieve the maximum improvement possible.
Spacing will depend on how long you are holding the benefit.
We will try to push sessions out as long as possible, as long as your body is maintaining the improvement.
Spacing and duration of this phase will vary.
Maintenance & Prevention Phase: Continued treatment to hold improvement and for general health to prevent reoccurrence, re-injury, or other illness.
