Berkley Acupuncture
We practice Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which includes the use of acupuncture, cupping, herbs, and dietary changes. In our practice we treat the whole person, and our number one skill is listening to our patients first, then diagnosing to treat. The healer who listens best, will treat the individual best.
Services
Below are necessary forms needed in order to receive acupuncture.
For certified Acupuncturists, forms are a necessity to ensure that both parties involved are knowledgeable of the service and are protected.
If you like, please print and fill out the forms prior to visitation.
Also, check out the insurance carriers listed to see if you may qualify!
The Consent Form lets you know about the treatment prior to having it as well as allowing us to be able to provide the service to you.
The Mandatory Disclosure Statement is to make sure you are aware of necessary items such as cost.
This is usually the biggest concern that people have when first getting acupuncture.
My answer is mostly NO.
What I tell all new patients is; the needles are hair thin and are more like a pin rather than a hollow tip hypodermic which are the type that doctors and nurses use for vaccines and taking blood.
The hypodermic needles are about 16 times thicker than an acupuncture needle.
When inserting the acupuncture needle, you may feel a slight pinch.
Most of the time you won't even know I inserted the needle.
Moxa or Moxabustion has been a long standing modality within Chinese medicine for at least 3000 to 4000 years ago.
It is believed that moxabustion was used before acupuncture and herbalism for healing.
What is Moxa?
It is an herb called Mugwart or Ai Ye in Chinese Pinyon.
Mugwart is a species of Chrysanthemum which is indigenous in China and the United States.
Mugwart must be processed first then it begins to resemble cotton but with a yellowish/ brown color.
The processing helps it bind together well so when you make cones to place on the body or on the top of a needle, it holds together while being burned.
There are hundreds of different formulas and over 400 single herbs within the spectrum of Chinese medicine.
Most formulas have 4-12 unique herbs that make up the concoction.
The first and most powerful method is raw.
This is where you take the herb in original form be it a twig, mushroom, root, leaf or flying squirrel's feces!
Raw formulas are cooked at home and then you take three shots daily.
Usually the taste is terrible but very effective.
The next type which seems to suite most people in the United States is the pressed powder tablets.
Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine modality where you take an object such as a spoon, animal horn or an object with a smooth edge that you could use to scrape the skin to get relief for pain, colds, flu, lung issues or sore throat.
Sounds kind of weird and when I first heard of this in Chinese medicine school I thought it seemed weird too.
How could this affect the body by scraping the skin?
I was wrong, not weird at all!
While in school, my stress level was very high due to the demanding class load which caused a lot of muscle tension around my neck, shoulders and upper back.
