Services
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) originated in ancient China more than 2,000 years ago.
It is a healing system of Eastern medicine that brings balance to our bodies and strengthens it's natural defenses, allowing for healing to occur and for our bodies to maintain good health.
See below to learn more about the TCM treatments we offer.
The most central concept in Chinese traditional medicine, Qi, is the central force that binds life itself.
It is the universal energy that runs through us all.
This flow of energy must be in balance to experience good health.
Chinese acupuncture, a part of TCM, or Oriental Medicine, is one of the oldest healing practices in existence.
It is used to promote health and balance in our bodies by stimulating "Qi" (pronounced "chee") through acupuncture points and meridians - pathways of qi in the human body.
Relieving blockages and restoring balance in the body and mind, allows qi to flow freely, and helps the body heal pain and disease naturally.
Our Chinese acupuncture service is tailored specifically for each patient and a unique treatment plan will be established during the consultation period.
A more recently developed treatment that is used alongside more traditional TCM treatments, Electrical Stimulation Therapy, or electroacupuncture, is increasingly popular.
It is an acupuncture technique used to treat a wide variety of conditions.
A major advantage of Electrical Stimulation is that the insertion of acupuncture needles does not need to be quite as precise, as the current coming through the needle is stimulating a larger area than the needle normally would on its own.
Similar to traditional acupuncture, and much more effective than using a tens unit pad, needles are inserted at points on the body.
Herbal medicine and herbal supplements have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and also in many cultures for thousands of years.
Herbs and naturally derived medicines have been proven to be both safe and effective in treating myriad conditions as well as for the maintaining overall health.
At the Center, we prescribe the highest quality herbals and supplements available to help our patients achieve a state of health and balance.
Generally, herbal medicine is prescribed in collaboration with acupuncture, or other TCM treatments to increase their effectiveness.
Moxibustion Therapy is a technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine where the herb commonly known as mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is burnt in order to warm an acupuncture point.
It is used to treat many conditions, but very often in menstrual irregularities.
It promotes the flow of Qi while warming the area being treated.
There are different ways to apply Moxa.
We can use loose Moxa, or a Moxa stick that is held close to the acupuncture point.
The burning of Moxa generates a warming sensation during the treatment.
