Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that stimulates and increases the flow of vital energy, Qi (pronounced "chee"), throughout the body.

Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that has been employed and developed for over 2000 years to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness. It can help the body heal more quickly and more completely, enhance the immune system, and augment the capacity for work, pleasure, and creativity. Acupuncture treatments can be added to conventional Western medical treatments plans.

At times acupuncture can be used instead of medications or surgery or be used when medications and surgery fail to improve symptoms. The acupuncture method improves the body's functioning, promotes natural healing, alleviates pain, and regulates the immune response.
Services
The number of treatments will vary for each person depending on the type and severity of the condition.
For acute problems of a simple nature, only a few treatments may be required.
For long-standing or complex problems, one treatment per week for a few weeks followed by a few monthly treatments may be recommended.
For health maintenance visits, only 3-4 visits a year may be necessary.
The treatment plan will be determined after reviewing your history and performing a physical examination and evaluating your individual situation.
When energy is unblocked and allowed to rebalance within the body, internal biochemicals and hormones are stimulated and healing begins to take place.
On occasion the presenting symptoms may worsen for a day or two.
With the first couple of treatments there may also be brief, mild changes in appetite, sleep, or a change in your emotional state.
These changes should not raise concern, as they are good indications that you are responding to the acupuncture treatment.
It is common to have a sense of well-being or deep relaxation especially after the first one or two treatments.

The AAMA strongly opposes attempts by physical therapists and others to perform dry needling on patients, as documented by its Policy on Dry-Needling, which states: To include dry needling into the scope of practice by physical therapists is unnecessarily to expose the public to serious and potentially hazardous risks.
Because of this we feel a duty to inform legislators and regulating bodies about the inherent danger to the public of this practice.
The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) is the premier North American organization of physician acupuncturists.
