I get it. In my early 20's I suffered from severe back pain - after years of athletics, my back was mess. And to be honest, my emotional health wasn't all that great either. Fortunately, I found Chinese medicine, acupuncture and martial arts, and they led to rapid healing of my back pain and reduced stress. So perhaps you want your symptoms to go away, but other therapies or treatments haven't delivered the results you were looking for.

Maybe medications offered some relief, but you're concerned about side effects from long-term use. Acupuncture offers the possibility of feeling better, enjoying life more, and leaving the pain behind - without the risks often associated with prescription medications and surgery. I'm certainly glad I discovered that East Asian medicine worked for me.

If your health problems are making it hard to enjoy life, acupuncture may be just the solution you've been looking for. Used by millions of people a year, with virtually no side-effects, acupuncture has proven to be one of the safest medical therapies available.

I was a complete sceptic regarding Acupuncture.
I had been in constant pain for years even with medication.
After a few treatments by James Stegenga, I became convinced that acupuncture works.
It was like an epiphany when before one of my treatments James asked where is your pain and I realized there was no pain.
I was shocked that after so many years the pain was G-O-N-E!
The pain had been so very bad that when I was driving I could not turn my head to check for oncoming traffic.
I am now convinced with the correct practitioner one can be pain free.
No, acupuncture should not hurt.
A momentary prick is often felt around the needle as it is inserted, eventually creating a dull pressure or tingling around the area during the treatment.
Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment.
This can only occur if the treatment is comfortable and gentle.
This is unique to the individual.
Some people notice an immediate improvement in their health while for others acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect over several visits.
Almost all major insurance companies are required to cover Acupuncture within the state of Washington.
Jim Stegenga is a preferred provider with Regence (Uniform), Blue Cross, Premera, Kaiser, and Aetna.
To verify that you have coverage, you can either call your insurance company directly or you can call 360-491-5055 and have our billing service check your coverage.
It is usually not necessary to have a referral for acupuncture.
PIP (personal injury protection) policies related to auto accidents typically cover acupuncture services.
There are many styles of acupuncture that have developed over the thousands of years that acupuncture has been practiced.
Some work better than others for specific conditions, and it is important to match the patient with the most effective style of treatment.
Because many of the health concerns we treat in the clinic are either caused or aggravated by the stress, frustration, and uncertainty we experience in modern society, we feel it is critically important to address and balance our patients on those levels, as well as treating the symptoms.
Trigger Point Therapy - this was traditionally known as "ashi" point therapy (roughly translated, the Chinese word "ashi" means "yes, that's the spot").
In the West, trigger point therapy was developed primarily by Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. David Simons.
Dr Travell was John F Kennedy's personal physician, due to her success treating his chronic back pain.
Also called dry needling, the treatment of trigger points can play a very important role in the treatment of many types of pain.
