Services
Ixchel worked for a leading Chicagoland Physical Therapy company as the company's sole acupuncturist from 2011 to 2015; she provided acupuncture services to the Evanston, Winnetka, and surrounding Northshore area.
Working alongside physical therapists allowed her hands-on experience with a variety of orthopedic injuries.
Licensed and Board Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and certified through the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Ixchel has accomplished result-oriented acupuncture treatments.
Originating in China, acupuncture has been employed as a health care modality for thousands of years.
It is a system of comprehensive and complementary medicine that involves pricking the skin and tissues with hair-thin, stainless steel, single use needles.
It is used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
It's based on the theory that energy, called Qi ("chee"), flows through and around the body along pathways called meridians.
Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something (trauma, stress, unbalanced diet, poor sleeping habits, etc.) blocks or unbalances your Qi.
On the body, sound work is a relaxation therapy technique that is performed on a fully clothed client and requires little to no touch.
In a typical session, therapeutic grade singing bowls are placed on and around the body and activated by striking with a padded felt mallet, producing powerful sound vibrations.
The result is a soothing sound and subtle vibration that relaxes mentally and physically.
The body is made up of 80 percent water, therefore, the vibrations can penetrate deeply into the muscles and tissues, as well as on a cellular level.
Ixchel was first introduced to meditation (in practice) during the summer of 2014 when she took her first yoga class.
Though meditation was simply touched on during yoga, the more she practiced, the more present she became.
Now looking back, she realizes that yoga was allowing her to be in the moment and mindful.
Most people are usually "crisis meditators, " meaning they seek peace when stressed.
The same was true for her.
During a stressful period of life, she searched for a sense of peace and embraced meditation.
