I am an acupuncturist on the upper west side of NYC and I want to help you achieve your health goals: less pain, more energy, better sleep, better digestion & better immune function, naturally. What do you want for yourself and for your life? Are small things- pain, sleeplessness, digestive issues keeping you from living life the way you want to? Do you have a health problem that isn't a major disease and perhaps has been dismissed by your doctor as a part of aging that you'll just learn to live with?
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been developing for more than 2,000 years as a way addresses those issues and maintain good health. This holistic style of medicine is focused on maintaining your natural healthy state rather than reacting to illness, because doing so now, prevents bigger illness later. I know you're wondering: Does acupuncture really work?
Yes! Acupuncture works by diminishing inflammation in the body, regulating the central nervous system, reducing stress, and improving circulation.

You may be asking yourself (or me) how acupuncture can possibly work.
You've heard it mentioned, by either hardened skeptics who declare it 'quackery' and cite poor translations of the Chinese concepts that inform this medicine, or from die hard followers who speak of it's spiritual aspects and perhaps sound a little more "new-agey" than you can relate to.
Both of these often make it difficult for people to conceive of how this might work.
First, let me point out that Chinese medicine is an entire medical system that involves not only acupuncture, but botanical medicine, nutritional concepts, bodywork such as tui na (massage), cupping, gua sha, and heat therapies.

Stress is a major underlying causative factor to many diseases.
It not only affects us, but our loved ones, our jobs and all aspects of our lives and well being.
Below are articles about the dangers of letting stress go unchecked, how acupuncture can help and other resources for stress management.

Acupuncture involves the placement of very fine, sterile, single-use needles in specific locations on the body.
After a discussion about your health concerns, ailments, and goals, Annalisa will be able to analyze the basic patterns taking place in your body.
You will get comfortable on a treatment (massage) table and she will gently insert needles in locations that correspond to the pattern that she has identified.
You will then rest quietly, without any awareness of the needles for 15-25 minutes.

In the U.S., more than 38 million people suffer from migraines.
Some migraine studies estimate that 13 percent of adults in the U.S. population have migraines, and 2-3 million migraine suffers are chronic.
Almost 5 million in the U.S. experience at least one migraine attack per month, while more than 11 million people blame migraines for causing moderate to severe disability.
Because migraines strike during the most productive, working years for sufferers, the pain takes a financial toll.
The World Health Organization's disability rating for migraine, ranks migraine as the 19th most common reason for disability.

Annalisa starts out doing a series of full body diagnostic tests to pinpoint any inhibited muscles which contribute to the area of pain.
She then uses Motor Point Acupuncture, a technique which uses needles to access the motor point of a muscle - the point where the nerve innervates the muscle - in order to release the tightened muscle fibers from a tense and shortened position.
When injury happens, these muscles tense up, pull on neighboring structures causing pain and tend to remain that way.
