J. Matthew Brand Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system of medicine that is supported by three primary pillars: Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Therapeutic Body Work. The bedrock that supports these pillars is daily physical and mental refinement. It is my belief that the only effective way to treat each individual is to provide the right balance of these treatment methods, and to help guide those in need to finding their own appropriate discipline.

Only then may we engage with the body's natural ability to heal itself. Matthew is a Chinese medicine physician and California Board and NCCAOM licensed acupuncturist. His services include varying styles of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, therapeutic body work (including cupping, guasha and tuina), nutritional consultations, and instruction in Taiji, Qigong and meditation.

With a lifetime of being physically active, his early focus was on orthopedic medicine and sports injury. He later broadened his focus to include GI issues, gynecology, male and female fertility, depression, anxiety, and more common ailments like colds and flus, as well as a variety of other ailments both common and uncommon.
Services
Acupuncture is a system that engages with a network of circuitry built into the body called channels or meridians.
Another way in which acupuncture can be thought of is that, by inserting needles into the sensitive points on the body, we may positively motivate the body's own resources to heal itself.
This can take form by alleviating pain or depression with the release of endorphins, or by stimulating the immune system to better combat disease, reduce inflammation, and increase range of movement after an injury.
Herbal medicine is an integral part of Chinese medicine.
Many TCM practitioners will use cupping and tuina to treat muskuloskeletal issues (see below), acupuncture to treat channel pathologies, and herbal medicine to treat internal diseases of a more systemic (or organ-related) nature.
In practice, we can do combination of therapies and use herbal medicine for topical applications (as with the use of pain patches and ointments, as in the ever-popular Tiger Balm), as well as for internal use (ie, in a consumable form).
Matthew has been steeped in martial arts for over 20 years, particularly with Xingyi, Bagua and Taiji.
He is an 8th generation Hebei style Xingyiquan, and 7th generation Cheng Style Baguazhang practitioner, and is the proud student of Master Jackie Yao-Wu Hu.
If you are interested in learning more about Chinese Internal Martial Arts, please visit Master Hu's website, or contact Matthew directly.
