Mike and Margaret moved up from the over-sized state of Texas at the end of 2013, just in time for the winter of all winters in Louisville, Kentucky. They both really like acupuncture and really only community acupuncture at that. It makes this job a lot more fun.

Both Mike and Margaret have completed acupuncture and Oriental medicine training at AOMA - Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX and are both certified as acupuncturists by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).Margaret comes from a small town in West Texas called Marfa.

Mike was raised a preacher's kid with two parents in the USAF who landed the family in San Antonio, TX in 1992. They're a long way from home but wouldn't want to be acupuncturists anywhere else. They are professionals, but they feel like you can be relaxed and enjoyable and be professional at the same time. So jokes are welcomed. You may see them wearing a t-shirt and shorts instead of a tie and a white coat.
Services
Acupuncture is the shallow insertion of sterile, single use needles to specific points on the body.
If this does not sound weird to you, it probably should.
Who wants needles stuck in them?
Not everyone, but lots.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective remedy for a variety of conditions.
It has survived for thousands of years as a healing modality.
We have only recently been seeing a slow trickle of scientific studies to see exactly what it is doing and what it is most effective for.
So skeptics, please be open to the fact that acupuncture probably does some things.
Here's a handy little document to give you some idea up front what to expect with regards to treatment planning.
Again, this is how we find acupuncture can work best: with regular frequent applications.
That frequency varies with regards to what is going on, but we want you to get a sense and not think we are going to tell you something completely different when you get here.
Cupping therapy is a simple technique of using a glass bulb to create a strong suction on muscle and connective tissue.
Cupping has many therapeutic uses, but we use it as an adjunct treatment for musculoskeletal issues, primarily of the back and shoulders.
You can think of it as fairly intense, deep tissue work.
The glass cup pulls up at the underlying tissue and the strong grip causes local irritation to the tissue in the form of a "hickey mark."
This irritation helps to promote blood flow to the treated area and helps to break up knots and tension in the tissue.
Dry needling is a technique of using the acupuncture needle to release trigger points in muscle fiber.
These irritations can build up in muscles from over-strain or repetitive stress.
Everyone has them to some extent.
All muscles develop them.
All activity gets repetitive or fatiguing at some point.
Mike is currently taking continuing education seminars with Myopain seminars, that developed out of the work of Drs.
Travell and Simons.
If you are looking to use dry needling for treatment at our clinic, find appointment times with Mike-do not expect dry needling with our other practitioners.
Acupuncture and Oriental medicine training often involves a lot of study about Chinese herbology.
At least it did at our acupuncture school.
We currently stock a small pharmacy of about 20 patent formulas and topicals.
A patent is an herbal formula that has been decocted and been put into a tablet or pill form.
Over time we intend to start stocking a wider variety of patent formulas and also raw herbs.
Currently we have a variety of formulas for digestive complaints, allergies, cold and flu, insomnia, anxiety, gynecological complications and pain.
